Russia warns of NATO Warships in Black Sea

GRANMA
September 3, 2008 Putin Warns of NATO Warships in Black Sea MOSCOW, September 2.— Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Russia will respond to the NATO military presence in the Black Sea

“The reaction will be calm, without any sort of hysteria. But of course
there will be an answer,” said Putin in a press conference in Tashkent, the Uzbekistan capital, reported Russian news agencies.

Deputy Chief of Russian Armed Forces headquarters Anatoli Nogovitsin noted that five NATO vessels are currently in waters of the Black Sea, which has coasts with Russia and Georgia.

The vessels include four frigates —Spain's SPS Adm. Juan de Bourbon, the German L Beck, the Pulaski of Poland and the USS Taylor— and the USS Dallas coastguard vessel.

Nogovitsin accused the US of transporting 1,200 tons of different types of armaments to Georgia since mid-August. “The Georgian authorities, with help from NATO, and especially the United States, continue their plans to rebuild the Armed Forces and the military command system,” said Nogovitsin.

The Russian general denounced that Georgia is planning “terrorist actions and sabotage in the territories of Ossetia del Sur and Abkhazia.”
